What a year we have had here at 1WAY FM! We’ve promoted concerts and movies, attended community fairs and conferences, launched our new website, and much more. The journey has been busy and exciting, and we wouldn’t change it for anything.
Arguably, the most exciting event we’ve promoted this year was For King and Country’s Homecoming Tour. In May, 3000 Canberrans filled the National Convention Centre to hear Joel and Luke Smallbone sing some of their most iconic songs. When the brothers opened the concert with their chart-topping single, Relate, we were totally hooked. Were you there? Can you relate? What Joy was in the room when we sang and danced along to the songs, being reminded to fervently fix our eyes on Jesus.
Shortly after the concert, For King and Country released their second feature film, Unsung Hero and we had the privilege of hosting a special screening. Unsung Hero tells the story of the Smallbone Family’s move from Sydney to Nashville and how they had to rely on God’s provision for their needs. The story of faithfulness, family, community and God’s boundless love resonated with viewers in Canberra and around the world.
Speaking of community, this year we, the 1WAY team, were able to partake in several events out in our community. One particularly fun event was St John’s Community Fair which we helped promote a few weeks ago. From live music to food to pony rides, there was something fun for everyone to do!
The fair was a great way to unwind after a busy September. Two of our volunteers attended the Canberra Women’s Christian Convention, several of our staff attended Christian Media and Arts Australia’s Connect Conference, and I, Kiara, attended the Omega Christian Writers Conference. It’s safe to say that all 3 events were amazing. We were all encouraged to continue on the journey God planned for us, and were able to bring new knowledge, renewed faith, and a reinvigorated passion to the work God planned for each of us.
Part of this year’s work at 1WAY was building a new website. Several people worked tirelessly to design, make content for, and promote our new website. Some exciting features of the website are the new user-friendly interface, inbuilt live player, new content, our Community Noticeboard and our new ‘Listen Again’ feature. You can look back at our journey by visiting 1wayfm.com.au.
Currently, the only way we can be a part of your journey is if we stay on the air. Because we are a community radio station, part of our organisation’s purpose is to engage with our community, but this goes both ways. We love serving you, meeting you and hearing your stories, but we also need you. We simply can’t run this station without your help. So, will you support your local Christian radio station? To donate, please visit our Donate page, or click the big green ‘Donate’ button in the header of our website. Thanks in advance, Canberra!
If I may, I would like to borrow a lyric from Joel and Luke one more time. When we rise, we will rise together, Canberra! Let’s continue this journey TOGETHER.
