1 Corinthians 2:8,9 None of the rulers of this world understood this wisdom. If they had understood it, they would not have killed our great and glorious Lord on a cross. But as the Scriptures say, “No one has ever seen, no one has ever heard, no one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
Listen: What the Lord Has Prepared for You
When you’re trying to live your life well … with goodness, with integrity … and yet everyone around you is behaving badly, you begin to wonder, “Is it worth it?” Well, is it?
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a German pastor and theologian best known for his staunch resistance to Hitler’s dictatorship and the abject evil – the genocide – that it was perpetrating. Whilst large swathes of God’s church remained silent, whilst church leaders through their inaction became complicit with Hitler in the evil that he’d unleashed, Bonhoeffer stood up and cried, “No!”
As a result of his vocal opposition, he was arrested by the Gestapo and spent almost two years in concentration camps. Accused of being associated with the plot to assassinate Hitler, he was hanged on April 9th, 1945, during the collapse of the Nazi regime. So, question: was it worth it?
That’s the question that the Apostle Paul speaks into in writing to the Corinthian church back in the first century as it struggled between good and evil.
1 Corinthians 2:8,9 None of the rulers of this world understood this wisdom [God’s wisdom]. If they had understood it, they would not have killed our great and glorious Lord on a cross. But as the Scriptures say, “No one has ever seen, no one has ever heard, no one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
Two thousand years earlier, like Bonhoeffer, Jesus had stood and spoken boldly against evil, something that cost Him His life. But as the Scriptures say, “No one has ever seen, no one has ever heard, no one has ever imagined what God’s prepared for those who love him.”
Wait for it. Absolutely, it’s worth it.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
