Music speaks what cannot be expressed

1WAY FM’s listeners are very aware of the joy and comfort that the right song in the right moment can bring. Not only do we know the delight of personal, individual connection with a song, we know that a song can potentially help us connect more deeply with our God. Songs have the potential to help us be more open to and aware of His Holy Spirit. Can thin the barrier between humanity and divinity!

This is why, when people of faith in Jesus gather together – typically on a Sunday morning – we love to sing songs. We highly value singing prayers, praises and declarations of God’s truth together. Even better than simply listening to songs, when we actually take part – sing the songs – the “vertical connection” with God as well as the “horizontal” connection with our church family – is greatly enhanced.

Yet sadly – tragically – many church congregations struggle to participate – to connect. While the (usually) amateur, volunteer singers, instrumentalists and technicians who serve are doing their best, Jack and Jill congregant often struggle to – or even resist – singing.

This is why I serve the Christian Church by providing training for worshipping singers, instrumentalists and technicians. With More Than Music Mentor, I provide high-quality onsite and online training for churches of all sizes, denominations and theological emphases, with teams of any age, experience level, technical ability of stylistic preference. The purpose of the training is to:

  • IMPROVE … the sound, musicality & “connect-ability” of your team’s songs,
  • INCREASE … your congregation’s level of participation & fulfilment,
  • INSTIL … greater unity between musicians, technicians, leaders, & the congregation &
  • INSPIRE … a deeper understanding & passion for (Romans 12:1) “living sacrifice” worship.

Singing passionately and worshipfully together is a significant indicator of a healthy, thriving church family. If you desire to see (and hear!) music used more effectively as an expression of worship by your church community, I believe I can help.

I’m in Canberra for the next couple of weeks (from my home in New Zealand) with a couple of opportunities for all those involved with music as an expression of worship in Christian Churches to receive encouragement, inspiration and training.
