The Board of Directors for Canberra Christian Radio Limited (CCRL), the parent body of 1WAY FM, sets and monitors the strategic direction of the company ensuring that we can continue to present a Christian message of hope and encouragement to our listeners.
The types of skills which would be useful for a CCRL Director are in any of the following areas: Strategy, Finance, Law, Communications/Media, Business/Management and Theology/Pastoral.
See the Legal Structure page for more information about how the company works.
Each Board is convened for a calendar year from the date of the company Annual General Meeting (AGM) of election, and up until the close of the following AGM.
Nominating for the Board
Board nominations are usually received in anticipation of the AGM each year.
To nominate, all you need to do is to find two other members who would be willing to propose and second your nomination – we can help introduce you to some other members if you aren’t sure who to contact!
Download and complete the Director Nomination Form and send it to the 1WAY FM station.
Completed Nomination Forms should arrive at our Fyshwick Office (or at PO Box 927, Fyshwick ACT 2609) by the closing date identified before each AGM (usually one week before the AGM date)
Please note: nominations should be accompanied by a brief (half page) introduction of the nominee, including a short statement of relevant skills and experience and the contribution that the nominee would make in being on the Board.
There are nominally ten vacancies for the Board each year. The CCRL Memorandum of Association requires all members of the current Board of Directors to stand down from office at the AGM (but they are eligible for reelection).
Download Information for Prospective Directors for more information on the roles and responsibilities of Directors.
Please note that only current financial members of CCRL are entitled to nominate for the Board, nominate another financial member for the Board, and to vote at a ballot at the AGM. You can contact the 1WAY FM station (02 6239 3711) or contact the Company Secretary to check that your membership is current.
Of course, you also need to be legally able to stand as a director of a company in Australia. More information on the Corporations Act 2001 can be found on the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) website.
Meetings are typically held monthly on an evening during the work week and each meeting usually runs for around 2 – 2.5 hours. Each new Board will elect a Chairperson at the first meeting and decide on an appropriate meeting schedule to fit in with members’ other commitments.
Meetings are minuted and an agenda is distributed to Board members prior to each meeting. A notice of attendance and absence is included in the minutes for each meeting.
A Board Calendar is established to ensure that routine and/or significant items are addressed by the Board at an appropriate time in the calendar year. Items that would appear on the Board Calendar include (among other things) approval of the budget and annual business plan and the dates of our Annual Appeal, AGM and other significant engagement events.
