SINGING SCHOOLย –ย February to March
Weekly Sessionsย –ย Mid March to end of October
Shape note singing is a folk gospel tradition developed for people who could not read or write.ย The music is written in 4 shapes and looks like normal music with the note shapes being – triangle, circle, square and diamond.ย We sing in 4 parts around a hollow square facing each other.ย The person leading the song stands in the middle of the square and members take turns doing this on a voluntary basis for each new song.ย Its community singing and has a tribal feel to it.ย It is open to all ages and all singers.ย We say – if you have a desire to sing you are welcome to join us.ย You come as you are and sing as you do.
