Charles Thomas Studd was a missionary to China, working with Hudson Taylor. In describing his missionary work, he said: “Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.”
Studd was also well-known as a cricketer and played for England in the match won by Australia which was the origin of The Ashes. He went on to found the Worldwide Evangelisation Crusade.
