The 2016 edition of the annual Pens Against Poverty schools writing competition is now open. It is an exciting opportunity for local students to write for a cause – ending poverty in Canberra. This year participants are invited to write a short story or poem up to 500 words on the theme of ‘Playing Fair’.
The competition is open to students in grades 3-10 and winners will be selected by renowned young person’s author Jackie French, with a $200 main prize sponsored by A J Gallagher and other prize awards to be won in six other age categories.
Entry is free with a deadline of September 19.
Pens Against Poverty is an initiative of Anti-Poverty Week ACT, co-chaired by the CEOs of Anglicare and YWCA Canberra and supported by a range of other local community agencies. An official award ceremony will be held as the closing event of Anti-Poverty Week in October.
