SINGING SCHOOL – February to March
Weekly Sessions – Mid March to end of October
Shape note singing is a folk gospel tradition developed for people who could not read or write. The music is written in 4 shapes and looks like normal music with the note shapes being – triangle, circle, square and diamond. We sing in 4 parts around a hollow square facing each other. The person leading the song stands in the middle of the square and members take turns doing this on a voluntary basis for each new song. Its community singing and has a tribal feel to it. It is open to all ages and all singers. We say – if you have a desire to sing you are welcome to join us. You come as you are and sing as you do.
