Merimbula Merroir: A Month-Long Celebration of Sapphire Coast Oysters.

Dive into a month of culinary delight as Merimbula proudly presents Merimbula Merroir, a month-long celebration of the award-winning Sydney rock oysters of the Sapphire Coast.

This inaugural series of events kicks off on the 1st of September and runs throughout the entire month, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage and premium, wild-caught Sydney rock oysters across exhibitions, specialty dinners, tours and accommodation packages.

The centrepiece of Merimbula Merrior is the Bidhiinja Oyster Exhibition, a new and insightful exhibition developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum in collaboration with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI).

Hosted at the Merimbula Old School Museum, the exhibition uncovers the history of oyster reefs in New South Wales and highlights the ongoing efforts to restore these vital ecosystems. It will open on the 1st of September, accompanied by a special event featuring live music, food vendors, and activities. In honour of Father’s Day, admission will be free for all fathers on opening day.

“Merimbula invites everyone to join in the celebration and explore the vibrant culture and thriving oyster industry that defines our region. Merimbula Merroir is a way to highlight one of the most important economic drivers in our region, all while having fun!” said Hanna Marshall, Tourism Manager at Merimbula Tourism.

“With a full calendar of events and activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy from a progressive, seafood-inspired dinner to oyster-themed paint and sip experiences and specialty cooking classes. You can even get out on the water in a kayak right alongside the oyster leases and learn to shuck your own oysters,” Ms Marshall continued.

In addition to these events, local accommodation will offer special deals and packages, making it the perfect time to plan a visit.

“September is a fantastic time of year to visit the Sapphire Coast,” said Rhys Treloar, Tourism Manager for the Sapphire Coast.

“The weather is warm and when you’re not feasting on oysters, take a quick look out to sea as the humpback whales migrate south with their new calves,” Mr Treloar continued.
