We are calling this parenting program - Parenting Help on “Drug Proofing” Your Kids.
The basic idea is that we as parents do what we can to keep this problem out of our families.
This program has had good acceptance and has the support of
Professor Toumbourou
Head of Health Psychology
Deakin University
He noted: “we think the program has a very sound logic by which it can take parents through a number of steps and challenges they can make, that will lead their children to a healthy future”.
The sessions cover topics including:
Drug awareness and statistics
Risks and preventative factors for parents
Ways of parenting
Safe drinking – latest guidelines
6 Keys to communication and problem solving
Importance of peers and parents and strong networks
Family traditions and rituals
Building positive kids.
As you can see there is so much good material to be able to enable families in parenting and drug awareness.
We have planned to run the seminar twice with 2 options to allow the most parents to participate.
One is over 2 Saturdays – from 9:30am-1:30pm, on 19th & 26th June 2010.
The other is over 3 Monday nights – from 7:00pm – 9:30pm, on 23, 30 Aug & 6 Sept.

Taken from www.afes.org.au/nte/what
National Training Event (or NTE) is the annual national conference of students and staff involved with Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES) groups on university campuses around Australia.
What is the aim of NTE?
The aim of NTE is to spur students on to transform Australia and the world
through radical, joyful, self-sacrificial living for the glory of Christ.
How do we achieve this aim?
Such a transformed life comes as God's Spirit works in the hearts, minds and lives of students through his word, the Bible. Because of this, the programme at NTE is centred around listening to God's word being taught - in talks and electives - and preparing to explain it to others - in strand groups.
The results of NTE
As a result of NTE each year, students are challenged to learn more about and pray for the Kingdom of God beyond the borders of Australia, are encouraged by meeting other Christian students from around Australia, and gain confidence in understanding the Bible and in teaching it to others.
This has ripple effects into families, as students live as Christians at home, student groups, as students find renewed enthusiasm for evangelising their unbelieving friends, and the workplace, as graduates are sent into the world as ambassadors for Christ.
2010 NTE features guest speaker, D.A. Carson.
